Arthrex is a global medical device company and leader in orthopedics medical education. With a corporate mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™, Arthrex has pioneered the field of arthroscopy and develops more than 1,000 innovative products and procedures each year that support all aspects of orthopedics. The Biomechanical Testing team is responsible for product testing and research to drive the iterative design process and to verify the safety and efficacy of Arthrex products. We are looking for a summer intern pursuing a degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering or related field to help push ongoing research and laboratory improvement projects over the finish line. The qualified candidate will perform mechanical testing, analyze data, and present findings to the Research Team. Additionally, the select student will be tasked with CAD responsibilities for the design and/or reverse engineering of commonly used test fixtures.
This internship will run from May 2025 – August 2025. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 40 hours per week at our Naples, FL facility.
Main Objective:
To gain industry experience with product testing and laboratory skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist full-time research engineers with mechanical testing and sample preparation.
- Participate in laboratory improvement and organizational initiatives.
- Perform testing of synthetic bone and soft tissue materials for mechanical behavior comparisons to cadaveric tissue.
- Analyze testing data and report findings.
- Use SolidWorks to create drawings of existing and new test fixtures.
- Present progress of projects to the Research Team.
Education and Experience:
- Progress towards a college degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering or Mechanical Engineering required. A rising college junior or above required. (Students who have recently graduated are only eligible to work as an intern/co-op up to six months from their graduation date.)
- Coursework completion in Engineering Mechanics and Statistics strongly preferred.
- Ability to work with and around cadaveric specimens required.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:
Basic to intermediate computer skills. Be able to follow written and verbal direction.
Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook; PowerPoint; Word and Excel required.
- Experience with SolidWorks required.
